Powerball winner message on WhatsApp — obvious scam, but people still share it
Discussion · Karan ·
The message says your number was selected, then asks for a processing fee. There was no ticket and no entry. I tell family a real lottery does not choose your WhatsApp number. What is the shortest scam warning that people will actually read?

The shortest useful warning is: no ticket, no prize — and never pay a fee to release lottery winnings. Powerball says lotteries do not contact random people by email or phone to announce a win and do not charge a fee to collect a prize.
Do not reply, open the sender's link, send ID or share banking details. In India, an online financial-fraud victim can report it through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the national financial-fraud helpline 1930. Use the official portal directly, not a link from the message.
