About Iowa (IA) Lottery

THE LAUNCH AND LEGACY OF IOWA LOTTERY:

The instant success that came right after the launch of Iowa Lottery is a tale everyone should know about. When it was put in action on 22nd of August, 1985 and the first tickets were sold for a quick scratch game which was known as Scratch, Match and Win, no one could have imagined the triumphant outcome. Within a week, the Iowa Lottery had sold over 6.4 million tickets, and thus started a revolution in the state of Iowa.

As of today, the players with Iowa lottery winning numbers have achieved over $4.2 billion in prizes – and that’s not all! The Iowa lottery has also remained very successful in raising over $2 billion for Iowa programs which support and benefit all the people of this state as they help make it a better place to reside in, work and have a family.

IOWA LOTTERY FUNDING:

Legalization which led to the creation of the IA Lottery began in April of 1985 – four months prior to the first ticket sold at the Iowa State Fair in August. Since then, the Iowa lottery has been working on not just providing entertainment to the occupants of the state, but also improving their lives.

In 1985, profits coming from Iowa lottery results were allocated to the Iowa Plan, which was a long-term economic development program. Some years later, they started to go to other cultural and environmental improvement plans. In 1992, they were appointed to the General Fund – which leads to the IA lottery profits going to Iowa Veterans Trust Fund, the General Fund, and the Vision Iowa program (a program for tourism and schools), as of today.

IOWA LOTTERY TICKETS:

At present, the IA Lottery sells tickets in three major categories: instant-scratch, lotto games and pull-tab. In Iowa, lottery items are being vended at almost 2,400 shops.

IOWA LOTTERY GAMES:

When it comes to games, Iowa has ‘em all. Players get to choose from a variety of games such as All or Nothing Midday, All or Nothing Evening, and so much more. You can play Pick 3 Evening, which was launched in July 1998 and a few years later, Pick 3 Midday was launched in September 2003 along with both – the Pick 4 Midday and Pick 4 Evening. In all the Pick games, the player gets to choose their own three numbers daily and even pick how to play them. Another choice is Hot Lotto, which was launched in April 2002, a game very similar to Powerball – where the Iowa lottery results could make the player win up to millions – usually as a lump-sum amount. Lucky for Life is a game which costs $2 to play and lets players win $1,000 a day daily if the IA lottery results are in the player’s favor. Lotto America, which costs $1, can be considered an improve version of Powerball and other big jackpot games which guarantee big jackpots if you have the right Iowa lottery numbers. Mega Millions also costs $2 to play, and jackpots start $40 million.
