About New Mexico (NM) Lottery

Run by the New Mexico government, the NM Lottery began in the year 1996, becoming the 38th US lottery. The NM lottery is also a member of the MUSL (Multi-State Lottery Association). The New Mexico Lottery Authority was established as a separate entity from the State to be governed by a board of 7 directors. This board of directors is chosen by the governor. The New Mexico lottery offers many scratch-off and draws games for its players. You need to be at least 18 years of age to be eligible to play the New Mexico Lottery.

THE NM LOTTO –

Lotto America jackpot starts from $2 million and tends to grow till anyone wins it. The ticket for Lotto America is just $1 for each play, per drawing. The jackpot prize for the winners is equally distributed between all the winning tickets. In case the claims for the win exceed the set prize fund, all prizes are subject to be reduced. NM lotto’s jackpot prize can either be given as an annuity or as one lump sum payment. If you chance to win the NM lotto with winning numbers and choose annuity over lump sum payment, your annual payments will be increased every year at a given set of percentage.

How do you collect lottery winnings in New Mexico ?

Before proceeding, remember that all winnings from a drawing game must be claimed within 90 days from the date of the drawing. As for scratcher prizes, winners must claim their prizes within 90 days of when the game's end was announced.

In-Person Claim
  • You can go to any New Mexico Lottery retail outlet to claim prizes of $1 to $600 in person. You do not need a claim form to do this.

  • You must go to the Lottery headquarters if you want to claim prizes worth $601 - $99,999 in person. You must fill a claim form in this situation.

  • All prizes exceeding$100,000 can only be claimed in person at the New Mexico Lottery headquarters.

Mail-in Claim
  • Prizes of $1 - $600 can be claimed by mail sent to the New Mexico Lottery office. You don't need a claim form when claiming prizes of this amount. The New Mexico Lottery postal address is provided below.

  • You can also mail your claim for prizes between $601 - $99,999. You will be required to complete a claim form for this.

Note :
The payment of prize money more than and including $1 million may be delayed for up to 3 weeks, or even more, from the validation date of the original winning lottery ticket.

How do I claim a lottery prize in New Mexico?

All prizes within the range of $1 to $600 can be claimed at any lottery retailer in New Mexico or by sending a mail-in claim to the New Mexico Lottery. You do not need a claim form to do this.


If your prize is within $601 to $99,999, you will have to visit the New Mexico Lottery headquarters to claim your prize. Alternatively, you could mail in your claim along with a filled claim form to: New Mexico Lottery, P.O. Box 93190, Albuquerque, NM 87199-3190.


If you have won a prize of $100,000 or more, then you can only go to the Lottery headquarters in person to claim your reward. The Lottery headquarters is located at: 4511 Osuna Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109, (North of the Studio 6 Motel).


How long do I have to claim my winnings before the winning ticket expires?
All winnings from a drawing Gabe must be claimed within 90 days from the date of the drawing. As for scratcher prizes, winners must claim their prizes within 90 days of when the game's end was announced.
Are winners of the New Mexico Lottery allowed to remain anonymous?
The New Mexico Lottery is subject to the Inspection of Public Records Act. By implication, the law allows public access to almost every public records including those involving details about lottery prize winners. The Lottery will therefore give out details about a winner such as their name, place of residence and amount won when requested. This is to guarantee that the Lottery's operations are as transparent and fair as possible.
Can uncompleted annual payments from a huge prize be inherited by a winner's estate?
In the case of death of a winner, the New Mexico Lottery Act allows jackpot payments to be made to the designated estate of a deceased winner or any industrial recognized by court order. As such, the Lottery shall continue to make annual payments to a winner's estate in the case of winner's death.
How much does the New Mexico Lottery deduct from winnings for the settlement of taxes?
The law requires the New Mexico Lottery to report all winnings that exceed $600. The Lottery will also deduct 24% for federal taxes and 5% for state taxes from any prize that is more than $5,000.
How old must I be to purchase tickets in the New Mexico Lottery?
All players must be at least 18 years old to be eligible to participate in the New Mexico Lottery.
I am a non-resident of New Mexico, can I still buy and claim lottery tickets in the state?
Yes. Regardless of your residency or citizenship, you can take part in the New Mexico Lottery games provided you meet the age criteria.
